What drives the price of polymethyl-acrylate paste in China?
The polymethyl-acrylate paste market is tightly linked to upstream acrylic acid and ester monomer costs. Recent monthly data shows methyl acrylate averaging 8,350 yuan/ton, up 6.37% on supply cuts from plant maintenance, while butyl acrylate fell 5.49% to 8,600 yuan/ton on weak downstream demand and cheaper feedstocks. In August, butyl acrylate rebounded sharply, climbing about 1,500 yuan/ton from July lows, forcing emulsion makers like Batf and Wanhua to hike prices 10-15% twice within two weeks. Since acrylic esters account for 60-65% of production costs for downstream acrylic emulsion producers, any sustained monomer rally directly squeezes paste manufacturers' margins and pushes selling prices higher.
