What is driving the recent price trend for ceftiofur sodium in China's veterinary API market?
Ceftiofur, a key veterinary cephalosporin, is seeing active capacity expansion across China. Shandong projects highlight new investments: Shandong Yixiang Pharmaceutical is adding 100 tons of ceftiofur sodium annually, while Shandong Jiulong Hisince received approval for ceftiofur hydrochloride capacity. Smaller specialty producers like Shandong Jiayi are also entering with 20 tons of ceftiofur sodium and 10 tons of hydrochloride. This wave of new supply aligns with broader veterinary API expansion seen in 2023, when major players like Lukang and Jiulong scaled up. Downstream, large integrators like Muyuan are vertically integrating into veterinary formulations, including ceftiofur sodium injections, which will secure captive demand. The market is bifurcating: bulk API prices face downward pressure from oversupply, but high-quality sterile grades for major livestock producers maintain premiums. Watch Shandong capacity ramps and Muyuan-linked procurement for near-term price signals.

Beyond capacity, watch raw material costs—7-ACA and intermediates like AE-active ester are critical inputs. Any supply disruption in these upstream chains could offset the bearish effect of new capacity. Also, environmental inspections in Shandong chemical parks may delay some projects, tightening supply sooner than expected.
