For formulators, the choice often comes down to volatility versus solubility. UV-9's lower molecular weight means it can migrate more in flexible PVC, so for long-life outdoor applications, consider blending with a polymeric HALS to lock in performance.
The regulatory angle is key. While UV-9 is approved in the US and Europe, some Asian markets are tightening sunscreen ingredient rules. For buyers, this means monitoring regional compliance shifts could impact export demand more than domestic polymer use.
Watch feedstock costs. UV-9 synthesis depends on resorcinol and benzoyl chloride derivatives. Any supply disruption in these intermediates, often tied to environmental inspections in Jiangsu or Shandong, can quickly tighten spot prices even if downstream demand stays flat.
