ChemPriceHub Alert: Indian Silk Trade Increases by 2.75%, Imports Surge by 11.86%

Published on 2026-02-02

According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, from January to November, India's foreign trade in silk products amounted to $3.746 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.75%. Among this, exports totaled $3.254 billion, up by 1.50% year-on-year, while imports reached $492 million, a year-on-year increase of 11.86%. PriceSeek analysis of raw silk, with a long-short score of 1, indicates that the 11.86% year-on-year growth in India's silk product imports reflects strong domestic demand, which may drive up spot prices for raw silk. The modest 1.50% increase in exports suggests limited supply growth, further supporting price increases. Overall, the expansion on the demand side presents a generally positive outlook for the raw silk market.
