ChemPriceHub Important Reminder: Elevra Lithium Mine Expansion Ahead of Schedule, Bearish for Lithium Carbonate
Published on 2026-01-15

Recently, Australian lithium mining company Elevra Lithium has decided to advance the expansion plan for its Quebec lithium project (spodumene) by two years, aiming to complete construction by the end of 2029. This expansion will increase spodumene production from 200,000 tons per year to 315,000 tons. PriceSeek analyzed lithium carbonate, with a long-short score of -1.5. Elevra Lithium announced the acceleration of its Quebec lithium project expansion by two years, raising spodumene annual output from 200,000 tons to 315,000 tons, a 57.5% increase. As a key raw material for lithium carbonate production, the increased supply of spodumene will reduce production costs and enhance potential output. Against a backdrop of stagnant demand, this exerts downward pressure on the spot price of lithium carbonate. Combined with data from the lithium carbonate futures market—such as the closing price of the main contract 2605 at 161,940 yuan per ton, a recent decline of 2,480 yuan, and a reduction in open interest—this news may reinforce medium- to long-term bearish expectations, potentially leading to further weakness in futures prices.
