ChemPriceHub Important Reminder: Major Breakthrough in Salt Lake Lithium Separation Technology

Published on 2026-01-13

Recently, the research team at the Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has achieved a major technological breakthrough in the separation of lithium resources from salt lakes, successfully overcoming the bottleneck of efficiently separating lithium, sodium, and potassium ions from lithium precipitation mother liquor. PriceSeek analyzes lithium carbonate with a long-short score of -1.5. The breakthrough in efficient separation technology by the Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes, Chinese Academy of Sciences, significantly improves the lithium recovery rate from lithium precipitation mother liquor, reduces extraction costs, and is expected to increase the supply of lithium carbonate in the market, exerting downward pressure on spot prices (bearish). Considering the recent contract trends in lithium carbonate futures, such as the 2605 contract (closing price of 156,060 yuan/ton, up 12,240 yuan), which indicates short-term demand support, the technological breakthrough reinforces expectations of increased long-term supply, potentially limiting the upward space for forward contract prices and putting pressure on futures prices.
