In September 2026, China's butadiene imports totaled 15,964.92 tons, a month-on-month increase of 1.22%. The average import price was $1,539.61 per ton, up 13.99% month-on-month. Total imports for January–September 2026 amounted to 198,085.96 tons, a decrease of 195,569.86 tons compared to the same period last year, representing a drop of 49.68%.

In September 2026, China's butadiene exports reached 13,435.82 tons, a significant month-on-month increase of 121.02%. The average export price was $1,443.45 per ton, down 0.99% month-on-month. Total exports for January–September 2026 amounted to 141,351.6 tons, an increase of 118,780.59 tons compared to the same period last year, representing a surge of 526.25%.

2. Influencing Factors

Imports: Import volumes rose slightly month-on-month in September, primarily due to the gradual arrival of butadiene supplies from Europe and North America, which contributed to the modest increase in import volumes.

Exports: Export volumes increased significantly month-on-month in September, mainly driven by a notable reduction in butadiene supply from regions such as Japan and South Korea, creating latent demand for Chinese domestic supplies.

3. Net Imports

5. Trend Forecast

In October 2026, water level issues on the Rhine River in Europe have eased slightly, suggesting that imported cargoes may arrive sequentially. Consequently, import volumes are expected to rise. However, domestic butadiene market prices remain high, maintaining cost pressure on exports. Overseas downstream buyers show limited willingness to follow high prices, leading to an expectation of lower export volumes. Monthly import volumes are forecasted to be around 10,000–20,000 tons, while export volumes are expected to range between 5,000 and 6,000 tons.
