Chempricehub News, September 24:

For ethylene-based vinyl acetate (VA), the weekly average price of glacial acetic acid in Jiangsu was 4,471 yuan/ton, and the weekly average price of Northeast Asian ethylene was $1,180/ton. According to Chempricehub’s cost estimation formula, the theoretical cost of ethylene-based VA this week is 7,860.9 yuan/ton. The current weekly average ex-factory price for Shanghai Petrochemical’s ethylene-based VA in East China is 7,800 yuan/ton, resulting in a weekly average theoretical gross margin of -60.9 yuan/ton.

For calcium carbide-based vinyl acetate (VA), the weekly average price of glacial acetic acid in North China was 4,445 yuan/ton, and the weekly average price of calcium carbide in Northwest China was 2,700 yuan/ton. Based on Chempricehub’s cost estimation formula, the theoretical cost of calcium carbide-based VA this week is 6,988 yuan/ton. The current price for Changcheng Energy & Chemical’s VA supply in Jiangsu is 7,750 yuan/ton, yielding a weekly average theoretical gross margin of 730.5 yuan/ton.

Additionally, for calcium carbide-based VA, with the weekly average price of glacial acetic acid in North China at 2,559 yuan/ton and the weekly average price of calcium carbide in Northwest China at 2,550 yuan/ton, Chempricehub’s cost estimation formula calculates the theoretical cost at 5,443.30 yuan/ton. With Changcheng Energy & Chemical’s VA supply priced at 5,700 yuan/ton in Jiangsu, the weekly average theoretical gross margin stands at 156.70 yuan/ton.

The sharp margin divergence between ethylene and carbide-based VA is striking. With ethylene routes running negative, downstream buyers may pivot to carbide feedstock if supply holds. This pressure could force capacity u..
