The domestic isooctanol market maintained its upward trend this week. On Thursday, mainstream ex-factory prices in Shandong reached 9,900 RMB/ton, an increase of 300 RMB/ton compared to the previous Thursday. The primary driver for this price increase remained the feedstock propylene, whose price surged significantly, providing strong cost-side support. Meanwhile, isooctanol plant inventories were low at the end of the month, and downstream plasticizer units gradually increased their load rates, creating rigid procurement demand for isooctanol that supported market transactions. The sharp rise in propylene prices on Thursday led to negative margins for spot isooctanol sales, which invigorated trading activity. Under significant cost pressure, isooctanol plants limited spot order acceptance in the afternoon of Thursday.
Supply: Following the restart of the Ningxia Baichuan unit, additional supply will enter the market next week, leading to an expected increase in domestic isooctanol supply compared to this week.
Demand: Operating rates for downstream plasticizers and isobornyl acrylate units are expected to rise, increasing demand.
Costs: Feedstock propylene prices have continued to climb, keeping isooctanol production costs at high levels.
Although some isooctanol supply is expected to increase next week, manufacturers intend to push quotes higher due to substantial cost pressures. Spot demand from downstream plasticizers is expected to improve steadily; however, at the beginning of the month, downstream buyers will primarily focus on fulfilling existing contract obligations. Terminal demand remains acceptable, with current raw material prices being tolerable to end-users. Consequently, driven by cost factors, the overall market center for isooctanol is projected to shift upward next week.
