How does DINP compare with DOP in performance for PVC applications?
DINP is a general-purpose plasticizer with a clear performance profile versus DOP. It offers lower volatility and migration, better water extraction resistance, and superior heat and aging resistance, which is why it dominates high-temperature cable (105°C) and automotive applications. But DINP is roughly 10% less efficient than DOP, meaning formulators need higher loadings to achieve equivalent softness. Its cold resistance is also poorer, making it unsuitable for low-temperature products. DINP also shows good compatibility with PVC, styrene copolymers, and nitrile rubber, but is incompatible with cellulose acetate and PMMA. For plastisols, DINP provides good flow and stable viscosity on storage, though it tends to discolor on heating unless phenolic antioxidants are added.
