Morning Market Brief: Acrylic Emulsion (September 17, 2026)

Published on 2026-09-17

I. Key Points

  1. September 15: Supply risks for Saudi crude oil intensified, and the stalemate in U.S.-Iran relations continued, driving up international oil prices. NYMEX October crude futures rose $4.44/bbl to $105.83/bbl (+4.38% DoD); ICE November Brent futures rose $3.07/bbl to $108.75/bbl (+2.90% DoD). INE November 2026 crude futures (contract 2611) rose by 59.7 yuan/barrel to 836.2 yuan/barrel, with night session gains of 23.8 yuan/barrel to reach 860 yuan/barrel.

  2. Domestic MMA market prices remained firm yesterday. Holders maintained stable operations, making low-priced sources scarce. Downstream purchasing enthusiasm was insufficient, resulting in average transaction volumes. The domestic MMA market is expected to consolidate in the short term.

  3. The domestic butyl acrylate market continued its firm trend at high levels yesterday. Raw materials n-butanol and acrylic acid traded stably within ranges. However, cost pressure on butyl acrylate persists. Holders maintained firm offers at high levels. Some downstream factories, such as those producing adhesives and acrylic emulsions, followed up with inquiries based on rigid demand. Actual transaction negotiations centered around high price levels. It is expected that raw material n-butanol will remain relatively stable today, while the butyl acrylate market will likely oscillate at high levels. Attention should be paid to changes in market supply and downstream demand guidance going forward.

III. Market Outlook

The butyl acrylate market trended upward yesterday. Prices for styrene and MMA continued to rise, increasing costs through multiple raw materials and providing strong support for acrylic emulsions at high levels. Production enterprises and holders maintained firm offers. Downstream end-users engaged in price negotiations and restocking, with overall trading volumes being acceptable. In the short term, upstream raw material markets remain strong, providing robust cost support. Emulsion producers are eager to maintain prices, and downstream enterprises may begin pre-holiday stockpiling. Suppliers may actively support the market due to cost pressures, suggesting a potential slight upward shift in transaction centers. Future attention should be focused on developments in raw materials like butyl acrylate, MMA, and styrene, as well as downstream market dynamics.

Crude surges are squeezing acrylic emulsion margins via high MMA and butyl acrylate feedstock costs. With downstream demand weak, capacity utilization may drop as producers struggle to pass on price hikes, risking a shor..
