Morning Market Update for n-Butanol

Published on 2026-09-21

I. Key Points

  1. Transactions for n-butanol at high prices remained sluggish.
  2. Downstream users engaged in essential demand procurement.
  3. On September 18: Expectations of improved repairs to Saudi oil pipelines, combined with signs of easing tensions in the Middle East, led to a decline in international crude oil prices. NYMEX WTI crude oil futures (October contract) closed at $100.3 per barrel, down $1.61/barrel (-1.58% WoW); ICE Brent crude oil futures (November contract) closed at $103.87 per barrel, down $0.95/barrel (-0.91% WoW).

II. Price List

Product Region Previous Period Current Period Change Rate
n-Butanol Shandong 8,725 8,725 0%
Butyl Acrylate East China 9,950 9,900 -0.50%
Butyl Acetate East China 8,325 8,425 +1.20%
DBP Henan 10,350 10,300 -0.48%

Notes:

  1. Prices for n-butanol, butyl acrylate, butyl acetate, and DBP refer to National Standard Premium Grade products.
  2. Prices for all four products are quoted in RMB, unit: Yuan/ton.

III. Market Outlook

Yesterday, the domestic n-butanol market trended weakly. Market wait-and-see sentiment increased, and transactions at higher price levels decreased. It is reported that feedstock propylene prices continued to fall, weakening cost support. Meanwhile, downstream willingness to take delivery declined, with purchasing primarily driven by rigid demand at lower price points. Overall trading activity was moderate, with transaction centers skewed toward lower price ranges. Production units have gradually resumed operations, leading to a slow increase in market supply and alleviating tight supply conditions. The domestic n-butanol market is expected to fluctuate within a slightly weaker range today.

Data Item Release Date Previous Data Expected Trend for Current Period
Output Thursday 17:00 53,900 tons
Operating Rate Thursday 17:00 79%

Weak downstream demand and falling propylene feedstock costs are squeezing n-butanol margins. With crude oil retreating, the market lacks strong cost support, leading to sluggish transactions as buyers adopt a wait-and-s..
