Based on the delivery price in the Shandong Central region, today's price closed at RMB 13,375/ton, down RMB 75/ton from the previous period. The domestic butadiene market prices declined today. Demand from key downstream products remained weak, and the synthetic rubber market fell. Cautious wait-and-see sentiment was prevalent among market participants. Buyers showed increased resistance to high prices, prompting some traders to offer discounts to move inventory. Actual transaction prices continued to drop, pushing the overall market lower. Delivery prices in the Shandong Central region ranged from RMB 13,300 to 13,450/ton, while tank truck self-pickup prices in East China referenced a range of RMB 13,000 to 13,100/ton.

On October 20, the domestic butadiene industry capacity utilization rate was 65.92%, stable compared to the previous working day. Regarding theoretical production profits, on October 19, Japanese naphtha prices rose in the market, while Sinopec butadiene prices held steady at RMB 13,500/ton. Consequently, the theoretical production profit for butadiene extraction from C4 fractions decreased, with the calculated profit for the C4 extraction process standing at RMB 3,545.38/ton.

4. Price Forecast

In the short term, supply-side guidance for the butadiene market is limited. Downstream demand continues to be weak, with plant operating rates maintaining low levels. Coupled with the sluggish trend of key downstream products, cautious wait-and-see sentiment remains strong. Willingness to purchase butadiene may remain average, potentially suppressing market trends. However, supported by costs, traders have limited room for price concessions. The domestic butadiene market is expected to primarily trade within a fluctuating range.

5. Related Products Status

Synthetic Rubber Market: Today, prices for both butadiene rubber (BR) and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) declined. In the Shandong market, Daqing BR9000 prices dropped by RMB 100/ton to RMB 16,100/ton, while Qilu SBR 1502 prices fell by RMB 200/ton to RMB 16,050/ton.

With downstream demand weak and capacity utilization stuck at 65.92%, butadiene margins face pressure despite Sinopec’s price cut. I expect range-bound trading as buyers resist higher costs, though stable supply limits ..
