This week, the domestic 2-EH market center rose initially before falling back. On Thursday, the mainstream ex-factory price in Shandong was 10,000 yuan/ton, up 100 yuan/ton from last Thursday. Volatile fluctuations in international crude oil and propylene feedstock prices guided the 2-EH market trend this week. Last Friday and over the weekend, propylene prices traded near their year-to-date highs, providing strong cost support for 2-EH. Major producers raised their offers to high levels, while downstream users remained cautious about purchasing at these elevated prices. During this week, international crude oil prices fell sharply, and propylene prices retreated, removing support for the 2-EH market center. Consequently, producer offers gradually declined. Due to a lack of supply and demand support, intermediaries maintained a bearish outlook on future trends, widening negotiation spreads. Downstream users mostly executed raw material contracts at the beginning of the month, resulting in sluggish spot negotiations.
Supply: Anqing Shuguang restarted one unit, leading to an expected increase in domestic 2-EH supply next week compared to this week.
Demand: Operating rates for downstream plasticizers and isodecyl acrylate units are expected to rise, increasing demand. Buyers will continue to purchase based on actual needs.
Costs: Propylene prices are trending downward with volatility, reducing costs.
With 2-EH supply expected to increase quarter-over-quarter, spot resources are becoming more abundant. Propylene feedstock prices face downside expectations, weakening cost-side support for 2-EH. Downstream end-users, such as plasticizer manufacturers, exhibit strong wait-and-see sentiment, maintaining cautious procurement rhythms and buying only on demand. Driven by increased supply and weakening costs, the 2-EH market is expected to trade weakly. Industry participants will closely monitor trends in crude oil and propylene feedstock prices.
