What are the key industrial applications driving sodium sulfide demand in China?
Sodium sulfide is a versatile industrial chemical with demand spread across several sectors. In dye production, it is essential for making sulfur dyes like sulfur black and sulfur blue, and serves as a dissolving agent in textile printing and dyeing. The leather industry uses it for dehairing hides, while papermaking relies on it as a cooking agent. Other applications include mineral flotation as a depressant for sulfide ores and a sulfidizer for oxidized ores, wastewater treatment for precipitating heavy metals like copper, zinc, lead, and mercury, and metal refining to remove sulfur impurities. It is also used in electroplating for conductive layer treatment and in aluminum etching solutions to improve surface quality. This diversified demand base provides relative stability, though textile and leather sectors remain the most cyclical drivers.

Don't overlook the niche but growing role in metal refining and aluminum processing—these segments offer higher margins than commodity dye applications. For procurement planning, track downstream textile and leather output data as leading indicators for sodium sulfide demand swings.
