Watch the benzene-to-cyclohexane spread closely over the next few weeks. If benzene stabilizes, cyclohexane prices may face resistance at current levels. Also, monitor export arbitrage windows, as any opening to overseas markets could absorb surplus domestic supply and support prices further.
The yield improvement is meaningful but not transformative at current scale. The real test is whether the technology can be retrofitted across China's older oxidation plants. If adopted widely, it could reduce cyclohexane demand per ton of cyclohexanone, slightly easing supply tightness in the merchant market.
The captive nature of most cyclohexane capacity means merchant volumes are limited, amplifying price swings when downstream plants run at high rates. Buyers without long-term contracts should secure supply early in peak seasons, especially ahead of maintenance turnarounds at major refineries.
