Watch the supply chain difference. Industrial ethane moves in bulk via pipeline or cryogenic tankers tied to cracker logistics. High-purity ethane ships in treated cylinders—often 13 kg standard packages—requiring specialty gas distributors with proper hazardous chemical licenses and cylinder management. This affects lead times and pricing structure significantly.
For buyers, the key is feedstock security. US ethane exports to China face tariff and logistics risks, while domestic supply depends on natural gas processing and refinery off-gas recovery. Long-term contracts with domestic producers may offer more stable pricing than spot imports, especially as Chinese ethane crackers scale up.
Buyers should demand a COA showing the full impurity spectrum, not just purity. Two suppliers both claiming 99.9% can differ tenfold in moisture or oxygen. Also verify cylinder treatment—polished and passivated inner walls prevent secondary contamination that degrades high-purity product during storage.
