Morning Market Brief: Acrylic Emulsion

Published on 2026-10-28

Key Highlights

  1. Oct 27: Multiple parties continued efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, easing concerns over supply risks and causing international crude oil prices to fall. The NYMEX WTI crude oil December futures contract settled at $99.90/bbl, down $1.86/bbl (-1.83%); the ICE Brent crude oil December futures contract settled at $113.88/bbl, down $1.93/bbl (-1.67%). The Shanghai INE crude oil futures contract for delivery in December 2026 fell by 8.1 yuan to 731.6 yuan/barrel during the day session, and dropped further by 18.7 yuan to 712.9 yuan/barrel in the night session.

  2. Yesterday, the domestic MMA market maintained a firm price center. Costs remained high, with holders showing no intention to lower offers, resulting in limited negotiation room. Transactions were driven primarily by actual demand. In the short term, the domestic MMA market is expected to remain firm.

  3. Yesterday, the domestic butyl acrylate (BA) market continued its upward trend. Upstream raw materials—n-butanol and acrylic acid—remained relatively stable within their ranges. Cost support for BA was largely steady with minor fluctuations. BA holders adjusted quotes according to market conditions, leading to gradually rising offers. During the transition period between old and new contracts, downstream users mainly consumed existing inventory and fulfilled contract obligations, with limited proactive spot buying. Low-price offers decreased, and the market trading center continued to rise. Today, the BA market is expected to remain firm. Future developments will depend on market supply and changes in raw material prices.

Market Outlook

Yesterday, the raw material butyl acrylate (BA) rose, styrene declined, and the MMA market stabilized. Cost-side changes were minimal. Acrylic emulsion factories and traders offered flexible pricing to move inventory, while downstream users purchased on an as-needed basis. Market negotiations remained temporarily stable. Today, the raw material markets are expected to consolidate within ranges, with limited changes in costs. Acrylic emulsion producers are likely to maintain stable pricing for sales. Downstream purchasing expectations are moderate, and the acrylic emulsion market is predicted to remain steady. Future attention should be paid to dynamics in BA, MMA, styrene raw materials, and downstream markets.

With crude falling but MMA costs staying firm, I see acrylic emulsion margins getting squeezed. Stable raw materials keep supply tight, so downstream demand will likely drive prices higher despite the geopolitical easing..
