What is the supply-demand outlook for 2-propylheptanol in China?
China's 2-PH industry is still nascent, with only three producers: Yangzi BASF (80 kt/a, built 2010), Shenhua Baotou (commissioned 2013 using Davy technology), and Yanchang Petroleum (started 2019, the world's first butanol/2-PH co-production unit). Domestic 2-PH is almost entirely consumed captively for DPHP; surfactant and acrylate applications remain undeveloped. If China accelerates its plasticizer transition to match European and US usage ratios, potential 2-PH capacity demand could reach at least 800 kt. The main bottleneck is technology—all Chinese plants rely on licensed foreign processes, limiting domestic know-how and expansion speed.
