Morning Market Brief: Acrylic Emulsion

Published on 2026-10-13

I. Key Focus Points

  1. October 12: Houthi armed forces continued attacks on Saudi Arabia, and instability in the Middle East escalated supply risks, driving international crude oil prices higher. NYMEX WTI crude oil futures (November contract) closed at $93.74/bbl, up $1.89/bbl (+2.06% WoW); ICE Brent crude oil futures (December contract) closed at $106.65/bbl, up $1.93/bbl (+1.84% WoW). China INE crude oil futures (December 2026 contract) fell by 8.9 yuan to 709.5 yuan/bbl during the day session, but rose by 24.7 yuan to 734.2 yuan/bbl in the night session.

  2. Yesterday, the domestic MMA market center remained stable. Holders maintained steady offers, with limited inquiries from the downstream sector early in the week. Downstream users adopted a "buy-as-needed" strategy, resulting in insufficient negotiation follow-up. Short-term price fluctuations in the domestic MMA market are expected to remain limited.

  3. Yesterday, the domestic butyl acrylate market continued its volatile upward trend. Strong support came from high propylene prices upstream, while raw materials n-butanol and acrylic acid also extended their gains, increasing cost-side support for butyl acrylate. Producers actively held firm on prices, gradually raising offers, while holders reduced low-price quotes. Downstream users purchased according to demand, primarily drawing down inventories. Overall, the price center continued to rise amidst volatility. Today, the butyl acrylate market is expected to remain firm at high levels, with focus shifting to market supply conditions and downstream plant restarts.

III. Market Outlook

Yesterday, the raw material MMA market remained stable, while the butyl acrylate market rose. Styrene weakened, slightly alleviating cost-side pressure. Acrylic emulsion factories maintained firm offers, reducing low-price transactions in the market. End-users entered the market cautiously for purchases, keeping negotiations firm. It is expected that raw material markets will maintain range-bound trading today, with costs consolidating at high levels for the time being. Acrylic emulsion factories are likely to offer stable prices, while downstream enterprises inquire based on rigid demand. The emulsion market is expected to remain largely stable. Future attention should be paid to dynamics in raw materials such as butyl acrylate, MMA, and styrene, as well as the downstream market.

With crude volatility lifting feedstock costs, especially for butyl acrylate, I expect acrylic emulsion margins to face pressure despite stable MMA. Downstream demand remains cautious, so capacity utilization may stay mo..
